GN Separation recently delivered three units of its GNLW764 decanter centrifuges to a sugar beet processing facility in Europe, supporting wastewater treatment operations associated with beet washing. This marks another successful application of GN’s large-capacity separation technology in the food processing industry, where effective solids-liquid separation is critical for meeting environmental discharge standards.
The GNLW764 model is GN’s largest bowl decanter centrifuge, featuring a bowl diameter of 760mm. With a length-diameter ratio of 4.4 and a maximum capacity of up to 150 m³/h, it is specifically designed for high-volume applications that require efficient dewatering and high solids discharge rates. In sugar production, the root washing process produces large volumes of slurry containing fine soil and organic matter, which must be separated from the water before recycling or discharge.
By integrating the GNLW764 centrifuges, the sugar beet facility can significantly reduce its wastewater volume, lower disposal costs, and recover more clean water for reuse in production. The high G-force and continuous operation of the units also ensure minimal downtime and reduced reliance on chemical flocculants.
Although originally built for industries like mining and oilfield waste management, GN’s heavy-duty decanter centrifuges have seen growing demand in the food sector, where similar challenges in sludge handling and water recovery are present. Their adaptability and modular design also allow operators to scale the system based on seasonal demand, such as peak harvesting periods.
This delivery highlights the versatility of GN’s separation equipment beyond its traditional markets. As environmental compliance becomes more stringent across Europe, especially in food and beverage production, reliable solid-liquid separation is no longer optional but an operational necessity.
